Competitors in AI
Competitor tracking isn't a separate tab — it's woven through the whole platform. This guide gathers in one place everywhere you can see what competitors are doing and when they start winning in AI answers.
What it's for
- Share of Voice versus competitors — every brand visibility check also counts competitor mentions; the "Competitors in AI" chart shows who's growing.
- Alerts on competitor moves — e.g. a new competitor in answers, a competitor overtaking you on a question, divergence between platforms.
- Citations of competitor domains — the Competitors view in AI Sources shows where competitors get cited.
- Share of Shelf in the product module — the share of your products versus competitors' in shopping answers.
How to start
The competitor list comes from the company profile (name + optional website) — you set it during onboarding and can edit it anytime. This list feeds SoV comparisons, alerts and the classification of cited domains as competitor-owned.
Step by step
- Open the company profile and make sure the competitor list is complete and current (names the market actually uses — AI mentions brands, not legal entities).
- In AI Brand Visibility, switch on the Competitors view — you'll see your brand's SoV against each competitor, per platform and over time.
- Watch the alert bell in the visibility module: the platform flags SoV drops, new players appearing in answers and other significant changes on its own.
- Enable e-mail notifications for competitive alerts (Account → Notifications) so you don't depend on checking the panel — see Notifications.
- In AI Sources, open the Competitors view — domains where competitors are cited are your outreach target list and content topics.
For resellers, the assortment gap is often more interesting than "competitor brands": products outside your catalog that AI recommends in your category. See Product visibility.
FAQ
How does the platform know who my competitors are? From the list in the company profile. Additionally, the "new competitor in answers" alert detects brands outside your list that start appearing regularly — a signal to update the list.
How often does competitor data refresh? Together with monitoring — competitor mentions are stored with every visibility check, including the nightly cycle.
Can a competitor tell that I'm watching them? No — measurements are ordinary queries to AI platforms, with no interaction with the competitor's site.
What should I do when a competitor suddenly overtakes me on an important question? Check in AI Sources what gets cited for that question — it's usually a fresh publication. Respond with content or an update of an existing page (Content).
